Wolf Pack Weekly, November 14-20

Wolf Pack Weekly, November 14-20

Nov 14, 2016

The Wolf Pack played their first three-game weekend of the season this week, and went 0-2-1-0 in the three contests.  Friday night in Rochester, the Wolf Pack outshot the Americans 31-19 and got first-period goals from veterans Chris Brown and Marek Hrivik, but the Amerks would prevail by a score of 5-2.  The Pack built leads of 1-0 and 2-1 at Utica on Saturday night, and captain Mat Bodie scored his first goal of the season in the third period, but Hartford ended up dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to the Comets.  Back at home on Sunday, the Wolf Pack had the league-leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins roll into town, and a three-goal Penguin first period was the difference in a 4-1 Pack defeat.

This week:  The Wolf Pack get their first look at the new Springfield Thunderbirds this Wednesday night, November 16 in a 7:00 PM game, before the Pack make their lone regular-season visit to Binghamton Saturday night, taking on the Senators at 7:05.  Then the Wolf Pack are home for a second consecutive Sunday, as they host Providence at 5:00.

Wednesday, November 16 vs. the Springfield Thunderbirds (Florida) at the XL Center, 7:00 PM

  • This is another Wolf Pack “Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack” game.  The Family Value Pack includes two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs, all for just $40.
  • A Wolf Pack Thanksgiving food drive continues at this game.  Any fan who brings five or more non-perishable food items for donation will receive a buy-one-get-one-free ticket voucher for use at any 2016-17 Wolf Pack home game.
  • Once again this season, every Wednesday-night home game is a “Winning Wednesday”.  If the Wolf Pack win, fans can show their Winning Wednesday ticket at the Agera Energy Ticket Office at the XL Center and receive a free ticket to the next Wolf Pack home game, which is this Sunday, November 20 vs. Providence (some restrictions apply).
  • The Thunderbirds are a new entry to the AHL this year, affiliated with the Florida Panthers, after the Panthers last season were partnered with the Portland Pirates.  The Wolf Pack were 5-5-0-0 in ten games vs. the Pirates in 2015-16.
  • Springfield is 7-5-1-0 for 15 points through its first 13 games under new head coach Geordie Kinnear.  The Thunderbirds won two of their three games this past weekend, defeating St. John’s at home Friday night, 3-1, winning 4-0 in Binghamton Saturday night and then dropping a 3-2 verdict to Rochester Sunday in Springfield.
  • Veteran Thunderbird goaltender Reto Berra has already posted three shutouts in seven appearances, good for a tie for the AHL lead.  His 1.72 goals-against average is good for third in the AHL, and he is fourth in save percentage with a mark of 93.4%.
  • Tickets for this and all 2016-17 Wolf Pack home games are on sale now at the Agera Energy Ticket Office at the XL Center, on-line at www.hartfordwolfpack.com and by phone at (877) 522-8499.  Tickets purchased in advance for kids 12 or younger are just $10 each, and all tickets will have a $2 day-of-game increase.

Saturday, November 19 at the Binghamton Senators (Ottawa) at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena, 7:05 PM

  • The Senators come into the week 3-7-0-1 for seven points and are 1-5-0-0 at home.  Head Coach Kurt Kleinendorst’s club has dropped six of its last seven, after a 2-1-0-1 start.
  • This is the first of two games on the year between the Wolf Pack and the Senators, and the only regular-season visit by the Wolf Pack to Binghamton.  The Pack were 0-2-0-0 against Binghamton last season, with a 4-2 defeat the night after Christmas to show for their one trip to the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
  • Former Wolf Pack defenseman Michael Kostka (0-5-5) is part of a three-way tie for the Senators’ points leadership, with forwards Casey Bailey (4-1-5) and Phil Varone (2-3-5 in 8 GP).

Sunday, November 20 vs. the Providence Bruins (Boston) at the XL Center, 5:00 PM

  • The first 3,000 fans into this game will receive a free Wolf Pack ice scraper, compliments of Aer Lingus.
  • It’s Sonar’s birthday!  A crew of mascots from around the AHL, and various local teams, will be on hand for Connecticut’s favorite Wolf’s birthday bash.
  • At this and every Wolf Pack Sunday home game of the season, fans can take advantage of the Wolf Pack’s “Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack”.  The Family Value Pack includes two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs, all for just $40.
  • Also at every Sunday Wolf Pack home game this season, the first 2,000 fans will receive a “hockey bingo” card.  The spaces on these cards contain possibilities that might happen in the game, and if they do, fans can fill in the spaces to win Wolf Pack bingo prizes.
  • This is the P-Bruins’ first of five XL Center visits on the year, and the second overall meeting between the Bruins and Wolf Pack.  Providence won the first tilt, 6-2, November 5 in Providence, but the Wolf Pack were 3-0-1-0 at home vs. the Bruins last season and are 6-0-1-0 in their last seven home games against Providence.
  • The P-Bruins are 2-1-0-1 in their last four games, after winning just two of their first nine (2-5-2-0), and start the week three points up on the Wolf Pack in the Atlantic Division, with a mark of 4-6-2-1 for 11 points.
  • Rookie forward Peter Cehlarik (2-1-3) and veteran blueliner Alex Grant (1-2-3) had three points apiece in Providence’s 6-2 home win vs. the Wolf Pack November 5.
