Wolf Pack Weekly, March 12-18
Mar 12, 2018The Wolf Pack (26-29-5-3, 60 pts., .476) made their second trip of the season down to Charlotte, NC this past weekend, and were unable to gain any ground in the Atlantic Division playoff race. The Wolf Pack had leads of 2-0 and 3-2 in Friday night’s game against the Checkers, but ended up on the short end of a 4-3 score, and then dropped a 7-3 decision in the rematch Saturday night. Cole Schneider (14-24-38 in 63 GP) had three goals in the two games, to take over the team points lead, and Boo Nieves had two assists in Saturday’s game.

This week: The Wolf Pack have a busy weekend upcoming, with three games, including a pair of home contests. The Atlantic Division-leading Lehigh Valley Phantoms visit the XL Center on Friday night for a 7:15 PM game, and then the Wolf Pack head to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday night, for a 7:05 faceoff. Sunday finds the Wolf Pack back at home at 5:00, taking on the Rochester Americans.
Friday, March 16 vs. the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (Philadelphia) at the XL Center, 7:15 PM
- This is “Celtic Heritage Night” at the XL Center, as the Wolf Pack celebrate Celtic heritage with special games and promotions throughout the evening.
- At this game, and all Wolf Pack Friday-night home games, fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $2 beers through the start of the second period, presented by Dave & Buster’s.
- The Wolf Pack have swept all four of their previous meetings with the Phantoms, who have not been to Hartford since the Wolf Pack’s second game of the season, October 8. The Wolf Pack won that contest, 2-1 in a shootout.
- Lehigh Valley comes into the week with a league-best 87 points, at 40-16-3-4, and with only two regulation losses in its last 16 games (13-2-0-1).
- Phantom forward Phil Varone had 1-4-5 in the team’s three games this past weekend, and leads the AHL in points with 19-43-62, six points ahead of the next-highest scorer.

Saturday, March 17 at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh) at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, 7:05 PM
- The Penguins, who finished last week in second place in the Atlantic Division at 35-17-4-2 (76 pts., .655), travel to Charlotte, for games Tuesday and Wednesday vs. the Checkers, before returning home for this contest against the Wolf Pack.
- The Wolf Pack are 3-1-0-1 in five meetings with the Penguins on the year, but have only a regulation loss and a shootout defeat to show for two previous trips to Wilkes-Barre.
- Seventeenth-year pro goaltender Michael Leighton returned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton net on Saturday night in Binghamton, and made 27 saves in a 3-2 overtime win, after having been out injured since December 23.

Sunday, March 18 vs. the Rochester Americans (Buffalo) at the XL Center, 5:00 PM
- At this and every Wolf Pack Sunday home game of the season, fans can take advantage of the Wolf Pack’s “Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack”. The Family Value Pack includes two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs, all for just $40.
- Rochester currently sports a 30-16-10-6 record (76 pts., .613), and sits in third place in the North Division. The Americans have at least a standings point in six of their last seven games (4-1-2-0).
- This is the Wolf Pack’s last of four games on the year against the Americans, and their first non-Atlantic Division game since a 4-3 shootout win at Syracuse February 9. The Wolf Pack have won their last two meetings vs. Rochester after a loss in the first, and Hartford was victorious 3-2 in a shootout in the Americans’ only previous trip to the XL Center, December 9.
- Rochester rookie forward C.J. Smith, the Americans’ point-scoring leader with 14-25-39 in 50 games, has 3-3-6 in three games against the Wolf Pack on the year.
