Wolf Pack Weekly, January 26-February 1

The Wolf Pack (24-13-3-2, 53 pts.) headed into the AHL’s All-Star break by winning two of their three games this past week.  Yann Danis posted his first Wolf Pack shutout in Wednesday’s home game against Providence, making 27 saves in a 1-0 win.  On Friday night at the XL Center, a lower-bowl sellout crowd of 5,917 saw the Wolf Pack battle back from three one-goal deficits to edge Northeast Division-leading Springfield, 4-3.  Oscar Lindberg (2-1-3) and Joey Crabb (1-2-3) led the way offensively in that one, with three points each.  A Saturday-night visit to Syracuse yielded a 3-2 loss, the first Wolf Pack regulation defeat in eight games (6-1-1-0).

This week:  Plenty of fun and nostalgia is on tap at the XL Center this Friday and Saturday, as the Wolf Pack celebrate “Hartford Hockey Heritage Weekend”.  Two big Northeast Division games are on the schedule as well, as the Connecticut-rival Bridgeport Sound Tigers invade Hartford on Friday night and the Springfield Falcons pay a visit on Saturday night.  Both games face off at 7:00 PM.

Friday, January 30 vs. the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the XL Center, 7:00 PM

  • This game kicks off “Hartford Hockey Heritage Weekend”, as the Wolf Pack commemorate 40 years of pro hockey in Hartford.  The first 3,000 fans will receive a Hartford Hockey poster, presented by Toasted, and fans can view a collection of game-worn, Hartford-themed jerseys exhibited by the MeiGray Group.  That includes jerseys worn by Whaler luminaries Gordie, Mark and Marty Howe, Larry Pleau and Rick Meagher, as well as a Peter Fiorentino jersey from the Wolf Pack’s inaugural season of 1997-98.  The AHL’s Calder Cup will also be on display.
  • At this and all Friday-night Wolf Pack home games, fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $2 beers at the XL Center, through the start of the second period.
  • This is the seventh of ten meetings on the year between the two Nutmeg-State rivals, and the Sound Tigers’ fourth of five visits to the XL Center.  The Pack are 3-2-1-0 thus far against Bridgeport, 1-1-1-0 at home.
  • The Sound Tigers are above .500, 19-18-5-1 for 44 points, but currently occupy fifth place in the Northeast Division, five points behind fourth-place Albany and nine points in back of the Wolf Pack.
  • Bridgeport goaltender Kevin Poulin (13-10-1, 2.58, 92.2, 2 SHO) is third among AHL backstops in minutes-played, with 1699:51.

Saturday, January 31 vs. the Springfield Falcons at the XL Center, 7:00 PM

  • “Hartford Hockey Heritage Weekend” continues at this game, with the first 2,000 fans receiving a Wolf Pack team trading card set, courtesy of Team Ferior.  There will also be an exhibition of Hartford-oriented hockey memorabilia from the Hockey Hall of Fame.  That showcase will offer fans a chance to enjoy an extensive display of mementos from Hartford hockey greats like Ron Francis, Mark Howe and Ken Gernander. 
  • The Calder Cup will remain on display at this game, as will the MeiGray group Hartford-themed jersey collection.
  • This is also the Wolf Pack’s “Pink in the Rink Night”, in support of Komen Connecticut and the fight to eradicate breast cancer.  The Wolf  Pack are offering a special Pink in the Rink package for the game, with a ticket, a hot dog and a soda for only $25, and $5 from each package sold going to Komen Connecticut.  To purchase the special discount package, click here.
  • After Friday night’s 4-3, come-from-behind win, the Wolf Pack have taken the last two matchups between themselves and the Falcons, after suffering shootout losses in the first two.  The Pack are 1-0-0-2 at home vs. Springfield on the year.
  • The Falcons have fallen behind Syracuse and into second place in the Northeast Division, after going 0-3-1-1 in their last four games.  At 26-13-4-0 for 56 points, Springfield leads the third-place Wolf Pack by three points.
  • Kerby Rychel (12-14-26 in 38 GP) had two goals and an assist for the Falcons in Friday night’s battle in Hartford, and Frederic St. Denis (3-12-15 in 32 GP) had a pair of assists.

Pack Tracks:  The XL Center’s Comcast Coliseum Club will be featuring a new buffet package for all remaining Saturday Wolf Pack games.  The menu will include: tender, juicy, endless prime rib, alongside seven premium Saturday-only buffet additions, those being delicious, nonstop peel ‘n eat shrimp, a nightly chef special, fresh vegetables, potatoes, a kids’ entree, salad, fresh fruit, antipasto and dessert, all for only $19.00.  After this Saturday, the Pack’s next Saturday night home game is February 14, a 7:00 battle against the Albany Devils.

The first 2,000 fans into the Wolf Pack’s home game on Saturday, March 7 will receive a distinctive “double bobble”, depicting both halves of the first brother combination ever to play at the same time for the Wolf Pack, Chris and Ryan Bourque.  The bobblehead is presented by Team Ferrior.  Also, the Wolf Pack will be offering a special discount package for the March 7 game.  The deal includes four Red-Level tickets to the March 7 bobblehead night, two vouchers for Red-Level tickets to any other 2014-15 Wolf Pack home game, and a mini-helmet autographed by the Bourque brothers.  That package is available for only $125, and can be ordered by clicking here.

Once again this season, every Friday-night Wolf Pack home game will feature $1 hot dogs and $2 beers, through the start of the second period.  After this Friday night, the Wolf Pack’s next Friday home date is March 20, when the Lehigh Valley Phantoms visit for a 7:00 PM game.

The Wolf Pack’s “Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack” is available this season for all Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday home games.  The Family Value Pack features two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs, all for only $35.
