Wolf Pack Weekly, February 11-17

The Wolf Pack (20-25-3-3, 46 pts., .451) went 1-2-0-1 in a busy four-game slate this past week.  On Tuesday night at home against Bridgeport, the Wolf Pack jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead, only to see the Sound Tigers come back to tie and eventually prevail, 3-2 in a shootout.  The Syracuse Crunch blanked the Wolf Pack 6-0 at the XL Center on Friday night, but Hartford rebounded for a 2-1 win at Lehigh Valley on Saturday night, with Ryan Gropp scoring the third-period game-winner and Brandon Halverson making 25 saves for his first AHL win of the season.  The Phantoms broke back for a split of a two-game set between the two teams Sunday, though, knocking off the Wolf Pack by a score of 5-2 at the PPL Center.

This week:

The Wolf Pack have three games on this week’s schedule, two of them at home.  The defending Calder Cup-champion Toronto Marlies come to the XL Center on Wednesday night for a 7:00 PM game, and then the Wolf Pack make their final visit of the season to Bridgeport on Saturday night (7:00).  On Sunday the Wolf Pack host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 3:00.

 

Wednesday, February 13 vs. the Toronto Marlies (Maple Leafs) at the XL Center, 7:00 PM

  • At this and every Wolf Pack Wednesday home game of the season, fans can take advantage of the Wolf Pack’s “Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack”.  The Family Value Pack includes two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs, all for just $40.
  • The Marlies, the defending Calder Cup champions, come into this week unbeaten in regulation in six straight games (4-0-2-0) and with only one regulation loss in their last ten (6-1-2-1).  At 25-16-5-3 for 58 points, Toronto is tied with Utica for the last playoff spot in the North Division.
  • This is the Marlies’ only visit of the season to Hartford, and the conclusion of a two-game series with the Wolf Pack.  In the first game of the year between the two clubs, the Marlies defeated the Wolf Pack 3-2 October 20 in Toronto.
  • Former Wolf Pack Chris Mueller is Toronto’s leading scorer, with 24-27-51 in 47 games.  He is third in the AHL in points and tied for third in goals.
  • This is a Wolf Pack “Winning Wednesday”.  If the Wolf Pack win, fans can show their Winning Wednesday ticket at the Agera Energy Ticket Office at the XL Center and receive a free ticket to the next Wednesday Wolf Pack home game, which is February 27 vs. Hershey (some restrictions apply).
  • At this and every Wolf Pack home game, fans are encouraged to come early for “Hockey Happy Hour” in the Comcast Coliseum Club, presented by Minuteman Press.  Enjoy $2 beers and $5 appetizers from 5:00 PM until puck drop.

Saturday, February 16 at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (Islanders) at the Webster Bank Arena, 7:00 PM

  • This is the last of ten games on the season between the Wolf Pack and their in-state rivals, and the last of five visits by the Wolf Pack to Bridgeport.  The Wolf Pack are 4-3-1-1 in the season series, and 2-2-0-0 at the Webster Bank Arena.
  • The Sound Tigers are ten games over .500, at 28-18-4-2 for 62 points, after winning four of their last five games, and sit in second place in the Atlantic Division, nine points behind Charlotte.
  • Matt Lorito, who won a Calder Cup with Grand Rapids in 2016-17 and had 22 and 23 goals the last two years with the Griffins, returned from a season-long injury absence to play his first game with Bridgeport on Sunday, assisting on Tanner Fritz’s overtime game-winner in a 5-4 home victory over Utica.

Sunday, February 17 vs. the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh) at the XL Center, 3:00 PM

  • At this and every Wolf Pack Sunday home game of the season, fans can take advantage of the Wolf Pack’s “Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack”.  The Family Value Pack includes two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs, all for just $40.
  • This is the third meeting of the season between the Wolf Pack and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and the Penguins have taken two of the first three, including a 4-1 verdict November 10 in their only previous visit to the XL Center.
  • The Penguins enter the week sixth in the Atlantic Division, seven points ahead of the Wolf Pack and four points out of a playoff spot.  Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has lost three of its last four games.
  • Defenseman Ethan Prow is the leading scorer currently on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton roster.  With 15-22-37 in 49 games, he is tied for second among AHL blueliners in points and ranks third in goals.

Saturday, February 23, when the Wolf Pack host the Providence Bruins at 7:00 PM, it’s “Hartford Hockey Heritage Night”, as the Wolf Pack celebrate and pay tribute to over four decades of Hartford hockey.  The night includes a bobblehead giveaway to the first 2,000 fans, presented by Xfinity.

 

Once again this season, fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs, and $2 draft beers and fountain sodas, at every Friday Wolf Pack home game, through the start of the second period, presented by Nomads Adventure Quest.  The Wolf Pack’s next Friday home date is February 22, when they host the Springfield Thunderbirds in a 7:15 PM game.

 

Each of the Wolf Pack’s Sunday and Wednesday home games will feature the Wolf Pack’s “Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack”.  The Family Value Pack includes two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs, all for just $40.  After this week, the next Family Value Pack game is Wednesday, February 27, when the Hershey Bears come to town for a 7:00 PM game.

 

Every Wolf Pack Wednesday home game is a “Winning Wednesday”.  If the Wolf Pack win at home on a Wednesday, fans can show their Winning Wednesday ticket at the Agera Energy Ticket Office at the XL Center and receive a free ticket to the next Wednesday Wolf Pack home game (some restrictions apply).  After this Wednesday, the Wolf Pack’s next Wednesday home game is February 13, a 7:00 PM contest vs. the Toronto Marlies.
