Pack Force a Game Five with 2-1 Win over Bruins
Apr 28, 2015Yann Danis stopped 28 out of 29 shots, and Tyler Brown scored the third-period game-winning goal, Tuesday night at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Providence, as the Wolf Pack evened their best-of-five, first-round playoff series with the Providence Bruins at two games apiece, with a 2-1 win in Game Four.
The Wolf Pack victory forces a decisive Game Five, which will be at the XL Center this Friday, May 1, with faceoff at 7:00 PM.
Mat Bodie also scored for the Wolf Pack in Game Four. Seth Griffith had the only Providence goal, and Malcolm Subban made 15 saves in the Bruin net.
After a first period in which the Wolf Pack were outshot 8-2 but successfully killed three power plays, Hartford grabbed the game’s first lead with a goal by Bodie at 3:06 of the second.
Just after the Wolf Pack finished killing a penalty to Ryan Bourque, Marek Hrivik moved down the right side in the Bruin end. Hrivik dropped the puck off to Bodie, joining the rush from the defense, and Bodie rapped a high shot past Subban, for Bodie’s first pro playoff point.
Brown would make it 2-0 at 2:04 of the third, with the eventual game-winner. Bourque played the puck to Tommy Hughes at the right point, and Brown deflected Hughes’ quick shot past Subban’s stick side.
That goal would loom large, as Griffith cashed in on a Providence power play with 7:06 left, after Joey Crabb was sent off for tripping at 11:29. Griffith snapped a shot from the right point that eluded Danis, who had Bruin forward Ryan Spooner obstructing his vision.
A berth in the second round will be at stake Friday night in Game Five, and tickets are available at the Agera Energy Ticket Office at the XL Center, on-line at www.hartfordwolfpack.com and by phone at (877) 522-8499.
