Skjei Returned, Hellberg, Summers Recalled
Dec 18, 2015New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has recalled goaltender Magnus Hellberg and defenseman Chris Summers from the Wolf Pack. The team has also assigned defenseman Brady Skjei to Hartford.
Hellberg, 24, has appeared in 18 games with the Wolf Pack this season, posting an 8-8-2 record, along with a 2.62 GAA, a .908 SV%, and 1 SO. He has allowed two goals or fewer in nine of his 18 AHL appearances this season, including eight of his 17 starts. In his last five appearances with Hartford, Hellberg has posted a 3-2-0 record, along with a 2.23 GAA and a .924 SV%.
The 6-6, 200-pounder has appeared in one NHL game in his career, making a relief appearance on October 26, 2013 as a member of the Nashville Predators. Hellberg has appeared in 116 career AHL games over parts of four seasons, registering a 50-44-9 record, along with a 2.40 GAA, a .916 SV%, and 11 SO. He has posted a SV% of .908 or better in each of his four AHL seasons.
Hellberg was acquired by the Rangers from Nashville in exchange for a sixth round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft on July 1, 2015.
Summers, 27, has skated in 67 career NHL games over parts of five seasons with the Rangers and Coyotes, registering two goals and seven assists for nine points, along with 47 penalty minutes. He skated in three games with the Rangers in 2014-15 and made his debut with the Blueshirts on March 29, 2015 vs. Washington.
The 6-2, 209-pounder has skated in 27 games with the Wolf Pack this season, tallying three assists and registering 23 penalty minutes. He tied single-game AHL career-highs with two assists and two points on November 15 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Summers was acquired by the Rangers from Arizona, along with Keith Yandle and a fourth round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, in exchange for John Moore, Anthony Duclair, a second round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, and a conditional first round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft on March 1, 2015.
Skjei, 21, skated in two games with the Rangers after being recalled on December 15. He made his NHL debut on December 15 vs. Edmonton.
Prior to being recalled by the Rangers, the 6-3, 215-pounder had recorded two goals and nine assists for 11 points, along with four penalty minutes in 27 AHL contests with the Wolf Pack this season. Skjei leads Hartford defensemen in assists and points in 2015-16.
