Pack Celebrate "Hartford Hockey Heritage Weekend" this Friday and Saturday
Jan 25, 2016The Wolf Pack will honor over four decades of hockey history in Hartford this Friday and Saturday nights at the XL Center, on “Hartford Hockey Heritage Weekend”.
The celebration begins this Friday night, January 29, as the Wolf Pack’s in-state rivals the Bridgeport Sound Tigers pay a visit for a 7:15 PM game. Fans will be treated to a display, by the MeiGray Group, of iconic Hartford hockey memorabilia, including New England Whaler 1977-78 WHA jerseys worn by Gordie, Mark and Marty Howe, and Hartford Whaler NHL jerseys worn by Kevin Dineen in 1987-88, Ron Francis in 1988-89 and Pat Verbeek in 1991-92.
Also on Friday night, Connecticut Whale NWHL goaltender Chelsea Laden and blueliner Anya Battaglino will be on hand, meeting and greeting fans and signing autographs. The AHL’s Calder Cup championship trophy will also be in the house, and the first 2,000 fans into the game will receive a Wolf Pack team trading card set, courtesy of Qdoba Mexican Grill.
Plus, numerous different Hartford hockey memorabilia prizes will be given away throughout the weekend. Those include: Whaler pucks autographed by Gordie Howe and Ron Francis, signed hockey cards of Whaler luminaries Pat Verbeek, Geoff Sanderson, Ulf Samuelsson, Sean Burke and Dave Tippett; and two Ron Francis jersey cards.
Additionally, as is always the case at Friday-night Wolf Pack home games, fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $2 beers through the start of Friday’s second period.
Then, this Saturday night, January 30, when the St. John’s IceCaps invade the XL Center for a 7:00 game, former Hartford Whaler star sniper Geoff Sanderson will make a special appearance and conduct a pregame autograph session in the XL Center atrium starting at 5:30 PM. Sanderson chalked up 189 goals and 352 points, fifth all-time in Whaler NHL history in both categories, in 439 games in a Whaler uniform from 1990-97.
The Mei-Gray memorabilia collection will also be on display at Saturday night’s game, as will the Calder Cup, and the first 2,000 fans through the door on Saturday will take home a Ken Gernander OYO figurine, presented by Aetna.
