Game Preview:
This is the last of four meetings on the season between the Wolf Pack and the Comets, and the third battle in a span of two-and-a-half weeks. The Wolf Pack have won two of the three games between the two teams, including a 4-1 victory November 18 in the only previous encounter in Utica.
The Comets (20-14-5-3, 48 pts., .571) were on a three-game winning streak that ended Friday night with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Wolf Pack. The team sits in fourth place in the North Division, behind the Toronto Marlies, Rochester Americans and Syracuse Crunch, respectively.
Last Time Out:
On Sunday night, the Wolf Pack played to a 1-0 overtime win against the first place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the XL Center. Vince Pedrie scored his third goal of the season in overtime, while Alexandar Georgiev made 43 saves to record his first North American pro shutout.
Thus far, the Pack are 17-20-3-3 on the season with a .465 win percentage, which places them seventh in the ultra-competitive Atlantic Division with 40 points from 43 games played.
Players to Watch:
#17 Scott Kosmachuk
Scott Kosmachuk has provided the Wolf Pack nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points in 42 games. Kosmachuk is second on the team in points for active players and is tied for first in goals. A Toronto native, Kosmachuk is celebrating his 24th birthday today. The right wing is playing in his fourth season of pro hockey, as he spent his first three years with the Winnipeg Jets organization. With the Manitoba Moose, the Toronto native scored 11 goals and registered 17 assists in the 2016-17 season.
#52 Philip Holm
Philip Holm is second on the team in both points and goals, with eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 33 games. The defenseman won a goal medal in the 2017 World Championship with Sweden and spent last season skating in the Swedish Elite League, where he totaled 21 points in 56 games with Vaxjo HC.
