Hartford Wolf Pack defeat Syracuse Crunch 5-3

Nigel Dawes potted a goal and two assists to pace Hartford to a 5-3 win at Syracuse, the Wolf Pack’s first victory of the season.

Hartford struck first 3:22 into the game when Artem Anisimov scored his third goal in the past two nights, with Dawes and Jordan Owens receiving assists.

After the Crunch’s Geoff Platt evened things, Dawes gave the Wolf Pack the lead for good at the 11:24 mark. Ivan Baranka picked up an assist and would finish with a pair of helpers on the night.

The Crunch attempted a comeback after falling behind, 3-1, as Marc Methot and Derick Brassard scored power play goals. However, Hartford’s Lauri Korpikoski sealed the victory with an empty net goal in the final seconds.

Darius Kasparaitis and Alex Bourret also scored for the Wolf Pack, and Al Montoya made 20 saves in net to earn the victory.

The Crunch’s Tomas Popperle stopped 41of 45 shots in the losing effort .
