Wolf Pack Weekly: January 21 - 27, 2008

The Wolf Pack registered at least a standings point in three of four games this past week, but won only one of them, going 1-1-2-0 in a quartet of Atlantic-Division contests. The Pack snapped an 0-3-0-2 home-ice streak Wednesday with a 5-2 victory over Worcester at the XL Center, but then lost for the first time in four battles with Springfield on Friday, dropping a 3-1 road decision. The Wolf Pack suffered their first overtime defeat of the season Saturday, losing to Portland at home, 5-4, and then fell again in overtime at Providence on Sunday, this time by a score of 4-3. Defenseman Andrew Hutchinson and team points leader P.A. Parenteau, both with two goals and three assists for five points in the four games, were the top point-producers for the Wolf Pack during the week.

This week:
The Wolf Pack head into the AHL’s All-Star break with a three-game week. They make their only visit of the season to Albany Wednesday night (7:00), and then return to the XL Center for home games Friday vs. Worcester (7:00) and Saturday against Providence (7:00). Friday is Guida’s Family Value Night, and Saturday is Al Montoya Bobblehead Night.

Tuesday, January 22nd – “Wolf Pack Confidential”, at the M&M Restaurant at the Hilton Hartford, on ESPN Radio 1410
This week’s edition of the Wolf Pack’s weekly Tuesday-night talk show features Wolf Pack forwards, and former Dartmouth College teammates, Ryan Callahan and Dane Byers as scheduled guests. The show originates live from the M&M Restaurant at the Hilton Hartford, located at 315 Trumbull St. in downtown Hartford, from 7:00-8:00 PM. Fans are welcome to be on hand at M&M for an exclusive opportunity to ask questions and speak one-on-one with the guests. Wolf Pack Confidential can be heard live on the radio home of the Wolf Pack, ESPN Radio 1410.

Wednesday, January 23rd at Albany (Times Union Center), 7:00 p.m.
This is the second of two meetings on the season between the Wolf Pack and the River Rats. The Wolf Pack won the first encounter, 4-1, on November 10th in Hartford.
The Pack have won their last 10 games against Albany, the longest streak of consecutive wins vs. a single opponent in Wolf Pack history.
The River Rats (24-19-0-2, 50 pts.) are part of a three-way tie for second place in the East Division, deadlocked with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Hershey.
Albany’s leading scorer is Planet USA All-Star captain Keith Aucoin (8-31-39 in 33 GP), who is tied for fifth in the AHL in assists.

Friday, January 18th at Springfield (MassMutual Center), 7:30 p.m.
This the fourth meeting of the season between the Wolf Pack and their I-91 rivals, and the Wolf Pack have captured the first three, including a 3-2 decision December 28th in their only previous visit to Springfield.
The Falcons currently hold down the fourth-and-final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division with a record of 19-17-3-3 for 44 points, and trail the Wolf Pack by eight standings points.
Springfield point-scoring leader Rob Schremp (10-31-41 in 40 GP) is tied for fifth in the AHL in assists and ranks seventh in the league in points.

Friday, January 25th vs. Worcester at the XL Center, 7:00 p.m.

The Sharks are 0-3-0-1 in their last four games, to fall to 17-16-3-3 for 40 points. That puts them sixth in the Atlantic Division.
After Wednesday’s 5-2 home victory over Worcester, the Wolf Pack are a perfect 5-0-0-0 in the season series against the Sharks.
Mike Iggulden leads Worcester in points and goals, with 17-22-39 in 39 GP.

Saturday, January 26th vs. Providence at the XL Center, 7:00 p.m.
This is Al Montoya Bobblehead Night at the XL Center. The first 5,000 fans into the game will receive a free Al Montoya bobblehead doll.
The league-leading Bruins are on an AHL-record pace in wins and standings points, with a record of 33-7-2-1 for 69 points. That gives them a 10-point lead on second-place Portland in the Atlantic.
Canadian 2008 AHL All-Star Classic starter Pascal Pelletier, who is tied for the league lead in goals and stands fifth in points (24-24-48 in 40 GP), is currently on recall to Boston. Jeff Hoggan, however, had two goals, including the game-winner, in the P-Bruins’ 4-3 overtime win over the Wolf Pack in Providence on Sunday, and has rolled up 4-2-6 in his last three games.
The Wolf Pack have yet to defeat the Bruins in four one-goal games, but have managed a standings point in two of the four (0-2-1-1)

The 2008 AHL All-Star Classic, presented by Reebok, at the Broome County Arena in Binghamton, NY
Greg Moore has been selected to represent the Wolf Pack on the Planet USA team, and Nigel Dawes (currently on recall to the parent New York Rangers) has been named to the Canadian squad, for the AHL’s annual All-Star showcase. The league’s brightest stars put their dazzling skills on display in Sunday’s CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition, which starts at 7:00 PM and sees the Planet USA and Canadian sides battle in seven different events. Then on Monday night, it’s the 2008 AHL All-Star Game, featuring the world’s best young hockey players and the NHL stars of the future. Faceoff is 7:00 PM. It all takes place at the Broome County Arena in Binghamton, NY, and tickets are still available for the game, the skills competition, the post-skills party on Sunday night and the Hockey Hall of Fame AHL All-Star Classic Luncheon, which will be held Monday from Noon to 2:00 PM. Pack Tracks:
Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 22nd, from 2:00-4:00 PM, Wolf Pack players Brodie Dupont and Tom Pyatt will be visiting the Windsor Tree House after-school program at Poquonock School, located at 1760 Poquonock Ave. in Windsor. The players will be speaking with the program’s students about the importance of doing well in school, and will also participate in a floor hockey game with selected students.

This Thursday, January 24th, a group of Wolf Pack players will be visiting Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, 282 Washington St., Hartford, at 2:00 PM, to deliver over 250 toys and stuffed animals collected at the Wolf Pack’s December 15th “Teddy Bear Toss”. They will also be delivering a Play Station donated by Wolf Pack Player Thomas Pöck. The rest of the stuffed toys collected at the Teddy Bear Toss will be distributed to other area organizations this week as well.

The Wolf Pack’s annual “Scout Sleepover” is coming up Saturday, February 2nd, as the Wolf Pack take on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in GEICO Connecticut Cup action. Scouts who register through the Wolf Pack ticket office (860-548-2000) will be invited to sleep over after the game in the XL Center’s Exhibition Hall.

“Kids’ Club Day”, for members of the Wolf Pack’s Kids’ Club, presented by Click-It-or-Ticket, is scheduled for Sunday, February 3rd at the XL Center. Kids’ Club Day is a chance to attend a Wolf Pack practice, watch the team skate, and get player autographs. The Wolf Pack Kids’ Club is open to kids of all ages, and membership is free. Monday, February 18th is the date for the Wolf Pack’s annual “Tip a Player” Dinner and Sports Carnival, which benefits Gaylord Hospital. The event takes place on the floor of the XL Center and features dinner served by the Wolf Pack players, great food provided by area restaurants, raffles, zamboni pictures, tours of the Wolf Pack locker room, sports competitions, pictures and autographs with the players, a silent auction, and more.
