Northland AEG today announced an
agreement with XL Insurance renaming the Hartford Civic Center, the XL
Center.
Under the terms of the multi-year, seven figure agreement, XL Insurance
receives exclusive naming rights to Connecticut's largest indoor sports
and entertainment facility including logo changes on both the basketball
and hockey playing surfaces, tickets, uniforms and stationery; a
retrofit of both indoor and outdoor signage; and new atrium graphics.
Additionally, a new website www.xlcenter.com
will be launched, and all event and facility marketing will feature the
XL Center logo.
Northland AEG assumed the management of the facility five months ago
when it was awarded the contract by the Connecticut Development
Authority (CDA). "It is impressive that XL Insurance and Northland AEG
have been able to establish this progressive alliance in such a short
period of time, " said CDA President Marie O'Brien. "It shows commitment
from both companies as stakeholders in Hartford's success and continuing
revitalization efforts."
"Hartford is considered the city where the US insurance industry began
and remains a very influential business center for our industry today, "
said John Glancy, Chief Underwriting Officer of XL Insurance's Global
Professional unit, based in Hartford. "We are working with Northland AEG
to further develop the appearance of the XL Center. In the coming weeks
we look forward to unveiling and celebrating its new name and new look."
"The renaming of the facility is an ideal opportunity to launch further
improvements for the guest experience, " said Marty Brooks, XL Center
General Manager. "We're already implementing plans to better accommodate
our guests and provide updated amenities for the athletes, artists,
coaches, promoters, and event organizers. Enhanced employee development
programs will also be a key focus. We are honored to have a prestigious
company such as XL Insurance make this significant investment in our
community."
The XL Center includes the 16,500 seat Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the
Exhibition Hall, 46 Suites, and the Comcast Coliseum Club featuring a
full bar, restaurant and in-seat dining. The XL Center will host its
first event under the new moniker with a sold-out performance of Miley
Cyrus' Best of Both Worlds Tour (December 19). Cyrus is best known as
television's "Hannah Montana".
XL Insurance has a long history in Hartford and maintains its office in
the city as a strategically central location in the Northeast to conduct
worldwide business and access a talented, educated workforce. XL
Insurance will formally celebrate the partnership at the ESPN televised
UCONN vs. Louisville Basketball game on January 28.
The AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack is newly operated by Northland AEG LLC, a joint partnership between Northland Investment Corporation and AEG Facilities. The team is owned by Madison Square Garden LP.
